Investing in Unit Trusts is complex. There are so many rules in this area including but not limited to the Corporations Act, Trust Law, The Tax Agents Services Act, and in situations involving Superannuation Funds, there is the Superannuation Industry Supervision Act and the requirement to have a holder of an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) to oversee and advise on the set up.
This guide covers a very broad and general outline of the current rules in respect of investing in Unit Trusts. It in NO WAY outlines or provides any advice in this area. It is based on publicly available information on the topic and is a very general introduction for staff and clients to understand the structure and the broad rules around Unit Trusts. It in NO WAY represents a recommendation to proceed with an investment structure of this type. This is merely an education piece with ALL analysis needing to be signed off by a proper licenced adviser before you proceed.
And it would not be a BTS educational piece without a spreadsheet. The spreadsheet calculator allows you to work out the income tax aspects of the unit trust structure, the flow of funds with net returns before and after interest if applicable.
This is a useful education piece with a calculator and you must get it reviewed by a properly licenced adviser.
